چکیده

Understanding the effects of defects is crucial due to their deliberate or unintentional presence in many materials. Classical theory elasticity may not be best candidate describe behaviour structures with comparable size its underlying material organization, as it lacks internal scale parameters. In this respect, present study focused on comparison two well-established non-local theories; ‘implicit/weak’, micropolar (Cosserat), and ‘explicit/strong’, Eringen’s model, that classical model highlight differences a common case study: infinite plates weakened an elliptic hole different aspect ratios, under remote uniaxial tension. Fraction coefficient, providing identical stress concentration factor plates, searched for two-phase local/nonlocal model. Results are obtained by adopting finite element method quadrilateral elements. To account discontinuities within domain, modified using geodetical distance instead Euclidean one, computationally very efficient procedure developed exploit symmetric character problem without losing long-range interactions. The results suggest effects, reducing maximum stress, become more pronounced increasing geometric discontinuity quantified ratio ellipse which also influences equivalency between characteristic lengths models.

Stress Distribution around a Hole in an Ellipsoidal Shell*

This paper treats the stress distribution in an ellipsoidal shell of revolution with a hole. The problem is reduced to the solution of sets of eight simultaneous equations. If interest is restricted to the neighborhood of the hole, a simplification occurs requiring the solution of sets of four simultaneous equations.

New Method for Large Deflection Analysis of an Elliptic Plate Weakened by an Eccentric Circular Hole

The bending analysis of moderately thick elliptic plates weakened by an eccentric circular hole has been investigated in this article. The nonlinear governing equations have been presented by considering the von-Karman assumptions and the first-order shear deformation theory in cylindrical coordinates system. Semi-analytical polynomial method (SAPM) which had been presented by the author before...

reducing stress concentration factor around a hole on a plate by piezoelectric patch

using piezoelectric patches the stress concentration around a hole on a plate under tension is reduced and controlled. to attain the reduction in stress two placements for piezoelectric patches is investigated. the first location is top/bottom of the hole with compression induced strain and the second is left/right of the hole with tension induced strains to control the stress flow. the result ...
